Security Council Session III: What’s the difference?

In the third session of the Security Council, twelve nations convened to discuss ways to aid the Bosnia and Herzegovina crisis. Two resolutions were on the table and the discussion consisted of the differences between these two plans.

The first plan, “The Security Aid Care Enforcement Plan,” also known as “The SAFE Plan,” included members of delegations from Morocco, Hungary, France and United States.

The resolution included plans to help transport refugees. “A supply plane would come in and drop off supplies and pick up refugees,” Hungary said on the topic of refugee aid. This resolution intends to draw funds from non-government organizations.

Delegates working on the other resolution questioned why NGOs would be better for the funding. They also inquired as to how “The SAFE Plan” intended to keep supply planes safe. They addressed the topic of concentration camps in Serbia and asked the opposite side to introduce their ideas on it.

As the session goes on, all countries become more on edge in regards to the topic of the concentration camps. China suggests that they demand the Serbian government to allow the Red Cross to enter, condemn the practice of the camps and demand an end to them. Pakistan added on that they could regulate the camps and send in small troops when necessary.

Enraged with the idea that they would allow these camps due to their murdering of muslims and rape of muslim women, the United States spoke out in protest. China responded by claiming the liberation of these camps could fall under UN abilities.

The council discussed how they could combine the resolution paper’s differences in order to best help refugees and those in concentration camps.
