Islamabad, Pakistan- The geopolitical situation has shifted once again in the ongoing Kashmir conflict between Pakistan and India. After a proposal to devolve military power to regional representatives was rejected, a directive proposed by the Minister for Kashmir has initiated the creation of a regional alliance against India between Pakistan and the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

The directive passed after a vote by cabinet, and an official envoy has been sent bringing the offer to the PRC. The motion required a speaker for and a speaker against.

The Minister of Kashmir provided a speech in favor of the alliance wherein he stated in no uncertain terms, “China is the most important ally we can have in the war against India.”

The alliance is not guaranteed however. The Minister explains, “Pakistan has voted to look favorably upon the alliance, now we must wait to see how this will be received by the Chinese.”

The vote was not unanimous, and following its passage the Minister of Water and Power explained his reservations, “I think that China has shown in the past that they have encroached on the territory of their neighbors. China has already annexed part of Kashmir.”

Despite reservations from other members of cabinet, the minister who proposed it continued to make a strong case in favor of the alliance. He explains that as part of the alliance, China will invest in Kashmiri infrastructure loans.

Furthermore, the minister argues that past Chinese military victories against India make them a credible ally in the fight to retake Kashmir. The Chinese imports of oil from Iran and the import routes that take the oil through the Indian-controlled strait of Malacca create a dependency that China may be able to eliminate by fighting alongside Pakistan.

The Minister for Kashmir believes this makes the alliance a mutually beneficial opportunity wherein Pakistan can regain Kashmir and China may gain greater control over the supply chains for its imported oil.

News of this proposed alliance comes as the Pakistani military faces a new setback, and their recent military expedition in Indian-controlled Kashmir has been forced to retreat. If the Chinese agree to the alliance, it has the potential to shift the tide of the war and reverse this recent misfortune.
