The World Trade Organization (WTO) met to discuss agricultural needs of less developed countries.

A significant problem underdeveloped countries have when it comes to food is that they have no funds for it. This money problem is why the WTO has split itself into two groups that are both coming up with resolutions to the problem.

“The two sides want to help underdeveloped countries advance their agriculture using technology but have different ideas as to how to execute that,” said the delegate from Japan. “One side wants to give underdeveloped countries the technology while the other side wants to sell it to them.”

The specifics of this agricultural technology was also debated in the WTO.

“We’ve been discussing the biotech industries and what technology we should develop to help less developed countries as well as how to teach people to use it so they can successfully grow healthy food,” said the United Arab Emirates.

Another part of the monetary problem less developed countries are facing with agriculture has to do with tariffs.

“There are tariff imports that affect their economy because locally sold agricultural products aren’t as cheap as the imported food, so it is harder to be successful,” said the delegate from Kenya.

Japan is working on a safety mechanism to prevent corruption and any considerable damage if tariffs unexpectedly rise.

“We want to create a subcommittee to focus on subsidies and monitor them so we can stop monetary corruption in developing countries,” said Japan. “If there is a surge in tariffs we want to make sure developing nations have enough money to handle it. We want less developed countries to be able to participate on a global scale when it comes to trade.”

The delegates all agreed that a resolution would eventually be passed to solve the problems faced by less developed nations concerning agriculture.

“I definitely think we’ll pass a resolution,” said the delegate from Cuba.
